Opening Doors To Workplace Inclusion

By Matthew Chaussee, CareerViewXR Co-Founder & CEO

National Disability Employment Awareness Month is a time where those of us living in a world designed for our abilities might pause to consider others’ challenges — as if a moment of reverence fulfills some social responsibility.

But when we stop at acknowledgement, we completely miss the purpose and intent of this important annual event: recognizing the extraordinary gifts people develop and the accomplishments they achieve because of the challenges they face every day.

This year, the observance carries special significance for our organization because of an initiative called
XR for VR, a project designed to support systemic change for individuals with disabilities.

Bismarck State College career coach uses technology to do his job & help others find work

By Jody Kerzman, KFYR

For many of us, work looks a lot different than it did five years ago. The COVID-19 pandemic taught us how to work remotely and how to use technology to make work easier.

At Bismarck State College, technology has changed one employee’s life, and now he’s helping others find similar success. Bruce Klootwyk’s office at Bismarck State College looks like most other offices on campus. But there’s one thing missing: Klootwyk doesn’t have a computer on his desk. “This is my computer,” he said, pointing to an Apple Vision Pro headset. “It is essentially a computer in the headset.”

The headset allows Klootwyk to send emails, build spreadsheets and more by using his eyes, voice and simple hand gestures.
Klootwyk is a career coach at BSC, and during meetings with his team, he can share his ideas and his screen with his colleagues. For Klootwyk, this headset has been a game changer.
