Ingram Barge Launches VR Recruiting Tool

The West Kentucky chapter of Women in Maritime Operations (WIMOs) met April 30 at Ingram Barge in Paducah, Ky., for a lunch and learn. Each member had the opportunity to view firsthand how virtual reality (VR) technology could be applied for recruiting and outreach. Christa White, workforce planning manager for Ingram Marine Group, opened the session with a brief history of the company’s new VR program.

White explained how this program began with a suggestion from the director of The Innovation Hub in Paducah about a Kentucky career grant. The Innovation Hub develops high school students’ talents for the region through immersive experiences in technology, trades, healthcare, the river industry and more. That is when White and Ingram learned about Be More Colorful and its platform, CareerViewXR.

What started as a way to highlight careers at the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) has evolved into a powerful tool for recruitment, career exploration, and employee development – reaching everyone from middle school students to seasoned professionals.

Taking full advantage of its Golden Path Awareness Membership with unlimited employer-written Career Profiles in Compass, the NDDOT currently highlights 24 profiles covering everything from heavy equipment operator to chemist, archaeologist, pilot, and civil rights director. Each profile features detailed career descriptions, helpful links, related resources, photos, and often a video.

Busy season = so many team highlights to share! Below are just a few of our top stories in a short and sweet format.

🌟 Michael designed a new CVXR field trip interface with improved accessibility in mind. It's currently featured in our two newest field trips; stay tuned for further rollout details!
🏇 Matt, Joey, & Maddy filmed a field trip at Keeneland Race Course in KY with Production Grant winner Amplify Horse Racing.
🏺The team got together for an afternoon of Clay-raoke fun with NDSU Prof. Michael J. Strand.
🎤 Matt & Bruce Klootwyck Jr. from the XR for VR team spoke about workplace inclusion at GNDC's GrowND event.
🥏 Joey was awarded the MoorHeart Award for his community impact in redesigning Moorhead's Woodlawn disc golf course.
🎥 Ashley & Joey filmed with the engineers and technicians at Ideal Aerosmith and learned about their tables and testing capabilities.
