U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon Visits Bismarck State College
|
By XR for VR Team - Bismarck State College Bismarck State College recently welcomed U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, US Assistant Secretary for the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education Kirsten Baesler and US Rep. Julie Fedorchak as part of the nationwide “Returning Education to the States” tour. During her visit, Secretary McMahon toured BSC's Advanced Technology Center and National Energy Center of Excellence skills labs, where she saw firsthand how the college prepares students for
high-demand careers through hands-on, technology-driven education.
The XR for VR team highlighted Bismarck State College’s Immersive Reality Room, an innovative learning environment that empowers students, particularly individuals with disabilities, and community members to explore career pathways through immersive virtual and extended reality technologies. The Immersive Reality Room was funded through a U.S. Department of Education Disability Innovation Fund (DIF) grant as part of the XR
for VR initiative. The project is designed to expand career awareness and workforce opportunities for individuals with disabilities by providing immersive career exploration experiences and connections to training and employment pathways.
Secretary McMahon had the opportunity to see firsthand how emerging technologies are being used to engage learners, support workforce development, and connect students with career opportunities across North Dakota. The visit showcased BSC’s
commitment to innovation and highlighted how federal investments can support creative, student-centered approaches that prepare learners for the future of work. Secretary McMahon’s stop at BSC underscored the college’s growing reputation as a leader in career and technical education and demonstrated how partnerships between education, industry, and government can create meaningful opportunities for students. The visit also brought attention to the transformative impact of the XR for
VR initiative and the role immersive technology can play in expanding access to education, training, and employment.
